In 1985, the Ascension Parish Chemical
Industry joined forces to create the Ascension Parish Chemical Industry Community Awareness
and Emergency Response committee (CAER). One of the directives of the
committee was to educate area residents about the chemical industrys function in the
community. From that directive evolved a project to develop a group of subjects and
speakers to present these to the community.
As you go about your daily teaching activities, bringing in an outside
resource to reinforce a lesson can be a positive experience for students. Hearing someone
discuss their career, their job requirements or simply receiving a message on how to be
more successful makes learning a more pleasurable experience. We in the CAER committee
recognize that sharing our information resources with teachers, students and the community
is a win-win arrangement.
This booklet has been prepared to provide teachers and parish civic
organizations the opportunity to avail themselves to our information resources to address
topics of interest. To schedule a speaker, please call the contact person listed on the
individual company program offerings. If you have other topics of interest, please call or
write one of the member company contacts. We will be happy to provide whatever help we
can.
